Thymosin Beta 4 (TB500) 2mg: Thymosin Beta 4 is a protein isolate from the mammalian thymus gland. (1) It is encoded by the TMSB4X gene, and belongs to the thymosin family of low molecular weight acidic compounds. It is present in all types of cells except red blood cells.

Thymosin Beta 4 is associated with cell motility and/or differentiation. It binds monomeric actin (G-actin) in a 1:1 complex and acts as an actin buffer, inhibiting polymerization into actin filaments (F-actin) while providing a pool of actin monomers when the cell needs filaments. (2) This may assist or prevent the differentiation of cells like pluripotent cells into neural cells or osteocytes. As a result, molecules like thymosin Beta 4 may play an important role in postnatal development or tissue regeneration. Furthermore, the effect of thymosin beta-4 on actin may also govern cellular migration and angiogenesis. (3) TB500 is a laboratory-grade synthetic peptide containing 43 amino acids with a molecular weight just above 4.9 kDa.

TB500 shows its anti-inflammatory effect by attenuating nitrous oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E4 release in a cellular in vitro model of reactive oxygen species exposure. (4) However, it may also induce an increase in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in periodontal cells, including tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukins (IL) including IL-6 and IL-8. (4) TB500 plays a role in bone formation. (4) Further, TB500 may potentially be of interest to researchers exploring organ fibrosis. (4)

TB500 is associated with complex regulatory processes in the body. It plays an important part in the regulation of inflammation, cell differentiation, bone growth, and tissue regeneration. It could be a useful reagent for in vitro experiments studying cell models of fibrosis, inflammation, and cell differentiation.
