Sermorelin 2mg is a synthetic peptide. It is derived from the first 29 amino acids of the growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Sermorelin stimulates the production and secretion of GHRH by the hypothalamus, which in turn stimulates the release of growth hormone (GH) by the pituitary gland. Sermorelin has been extensively studied in animal models and in vitro, with promising results for its potential therapeutic applications.

Researchers conducted animal studies to investigate the impact of sermorelin on the release of growth hormone. In one study, it was discovered that amino acid sequence 1 - 29 was critical in triggering the release of growth hormone in rats. Furthermore, the researchers evaluated the effect of sermorelin on the release of growth hormone in pigs. The pigs were anesthetized and catheterized to allow for the administration of a dose of sermorelin. The results showed that sermorelin stimulated the release of growth hormone in pigs.1

Sermorelin is used as a diagnostic tool to confirm the diagnosis of idiopathic growth hormone deficiency (IGHD). In a diagnostic test known as the Sermorelin Stimulation Test, a small dose of sermorelin is administered to the subject, which then stimulates the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Blood samples are taken before and after the administration of sermorelin to measure the levels of growth hormone in the blood. A lack of response to sermorelin indicates a deficiency in growth hormone production.2

In a high-throughput drug screening study, researchers tested a panel of drugs on a patient-derived recurrent glioma cell line. The objective was to identify drugs that were most effective in inhibiting the growth of glioma cells. The results of the study indicated that sermorelin was the most effective treatment among the tested. The mechanism of action of sermorelin in inhibiting the growth of glioma cells is not fully understood. However, it is hypothesized that Sermorelin's ability to stimulate the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland may play a role in its antitumor effects.3
